Scheduling for our middle school

At present time our middle school has a traditional eight hour schedule. Each class is 45 minutes a day and taught everyday with the exception of phy.ed, art, music, health, etc. We are looking into going to a six day schedule or a block schedule in the next few years. Does anyone have a good example of either, or which works better?
