I did work with a district in VA that splits Algebra 1 as follows: Algebra 1 Part A meets for 90 minutes per day for a year and Algebra I part B meets for 90 minutes per day for the next year. This is equivalent to four times the normal time allotme…

We are a mini-magnet school of 720 students in a district with two other high school buildings and a total population of 6000. We have a 100 minute "academic exploratory" period mid-day when students take a 25 minute lunch and spend 75 minutes working in any classroom or the learning center. I am a third career high school math teacher, formerly a PhD economist and options trader. My children are both out of college. I am about to begin my sixth year teaching mostly algebra and precalculus.
