I am new to Baldwin-Whitehall School district in Pittsburgh, PA, but I am an experienced high school principal. I understand you visited our district several years ago and made a huge, positive impression on our administration.
I am in the process of trying to create a new schedule that incorporates an "Advisory Period" into the day. The Advisory Period is time when the professional staff works with students on a daily basis and throughout our students' four years in high school. The staff will be encouraged to develop positive relationships with our kids and provide academic assistance during that time.
I have attached a copy of it for you to view. The Advisory Period needs to occur from 10:30 - 11:30 since this is when all of our a.m. and p.m. Vo-Tech students are in our building.
My superintendent is not comfortable with the proposed 6th period and the rolling lunch waves that occur within the period.
Would you please look at this schedule and help me determine how I can keep the Advisory period within the day and still have equal time periods throughout the day so our teachers are teaching the same amount of time? It will also prevent uneven "prep periods" during the day.
I have been given permission to compensate you for your professional assistance.
Please contact me if you need more information. I appreciate your time and thanks in advance for helping us.
